  • Looking for a new adventure?
  • 1 year long volunteering assignment in the Kiribati - costs covered
  • Personal and professional development opportunity

You’ll be working with an agency looking to support I-Kiribati women at all levels: in their households, communities, islands, government and nation as a whole.

Aia Maea Kiribati (AMAK) was set up following Kiribati’s independance, and is an independant NGO that coordinates women’s groups under the direction of the National Council of Women, consisting of representatives from member organisations.

AMAK’s objective is to provide coordination, conduct research and training, and formulate development of AMAK’s operational function.  It currently has 35 associated members of women’s groups from all islands of Kiribati.

The volunteer will play a key role in developing strategic documents that will support AMAK’s constitution, policies and system procedures, ensuring the member organisations’ operations meet standard NGO requirements.

While the assignment aims to review and modify AMAK documents, it will support AMAK’s vision and mission by building internal capacity, ensuring the organisation can operate sustainably and independantly to support women’s development. Key responsibilities of the assignment include:

  • review and modification of the constitution
  • development of strategic policies
  • develop and monitor evaluation frameworks to support the constitution
  • develop capacity through meaningful involvement of members, stakeholders and partners in the consultation process.

To be considered for this assignment you will have strategic experience of reviewing and developing organistional policies and frameworks that support organisational change. Ideally you will have had previous exposure validating legal documents and have a strong interest in community groups and working on gender related programmes.

This is a unique opportunity to build capacity and help drive a leading programme that supports the empowerment of woman in Kiribati.

We are looking for a volunteer with:

  • Experience reviewing a constitution and recommending changes, preferably within an NGO organisation
  • Experience with the consultation processes among a wide range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement organisational plans, policies and processes
  • Strategic planning experience
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation

This is an 1-year assignment based in Kiribati.
