Pop-up Globe® is a multi-award winning New Zealand company that produces spectacular Jacobean theatre, particularly the works of Shakespeare, in ‘pop-up’ replicas of the second Globe, the theatre Shakespeare and his company built and used.

The Head of Wardrobe will be responsible for the running of Pop-up Globe’s Wardrobe Department. They will need to plan and manage the workload of the Wardrobe Department throughout the year full details of which are described in the Principal Duties. They will be responsible for upholding the artistic vision and high standards of the Wardrobe Department. They will manage the Workroom Supervisor and the Head Dresser and report to the Head of Production. They will work closely with the Pop-up Globe Head of Costume Design.

Principal Duties:

Take full responsibility for managing the Pop-up Globe Wardrobe Department

● Assist the Head of Education and Outreach in the organising and delivery of wardrobe related content

● Liaise with the Pop-up Globe Head of Costume Design in all manners to do with Costume Design and historical process

● Work in collaboration with Directors, Designers and Supervisors

● Manage the Workroom Manager and Dressing team

● Run the Wardrobe Department budget and ensure the artistic requirements of each production and the running of the department are met within budget

● Recruit seasonal and freelance makers, dressers and cutter

● Supervise productions if required as agreed with the Head of Production

● Plan the workload of the Wardrobe department throughout the year for productions, transfers and maintenance periods.

● Ensure the department is kept informed of all production changes by distributing and actioning rehearsal notes.

● Ensure all costumes are maintained, repaired and kept clean

● Ensure all costume plots are compiled for production weeks

● Support the dressing team during technical periods and ensure they have adequate workroom support.

● Take an active part in Production Meetings

● Mange the cleaning,repair, storage and cataloguing of all costumes at the end of each run

● Maintain and catalogue the wardrobe store

● Implement and maintain systems that ensure the effective and efficient running of the wardrobe department including keeping materials and sundries stocked.

● Maintain systems of financial accountability for all expenditure in the wardrobe department in conjunction with the Head of Production

● Manage the wardrobe budget & petty cash for each production, keeping records of purchases made providing GST receipts and reconciling the petty cash float after each transaction

● Provide wardrobe support for the Pop-up Globe Education and Outreach programme.

● Responsible for ensuring the organisation, maintenance and efficient running of the wardrobe office and laundry

● Co-operate, liaise and work closely with other departments to ensure the smooth running of Pop-up Globe productions

● Ensure that working practises in the wardrobe adhere to Pop-up Globe’s Health & Safety policy and procedure at all times

● Attend technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals during production periods.

● Ensure that all costumes adhere to guidelines stated in the artistic vision, particularly in relation to historical accuracy and construction

● Be a champion of Pop-up Globe, representing it in a professional manner, supporting its philosophy and vision at all times.

Health and Safety

● Ensure that all work carried out conforms with the latest Health & Safety regulations, Pop-up Globe’s Health & Safety policy and working practises especially in respect of creation of costumes for productions

● Have responsibility for requirements relating to safe storage of hazardous substances and New Zealand health and safety legislation.

● Carry out risk assessments of hazardous tasks where necessary

General:

● The above duties may involve having access to information of a confidential nature that may be covered in data protection legislation. Confidentiality must be maintained at all times

● The post holder must be flexible to ensure that the operational needs of the Company are met This includes undertaking duties of a similar nature and responsibility as and when required

● On occasion, be prepared to work evenings and weekends

Person Specification: Essential:

At least 2 years experience of management in a professional wardrobe environment.

● Significant experience of working within professional theatre
