BATS Theatre is the largest developmental theatre in New Zealand, presenting an annual programme of more than 90 shows across three performance spaces that encompass theatre, dance, music and comedy. BATS is recognised and funded as an Arts Leadership Organisation by Creative New Zealand and is also supported by the Wellington City Council.

We are seeking a special person to join our team. The Front of House Manager is the face and voice of BATS, responsible for the management and administration of the box office and bar. The role encompasses financial systems and processes as well as training, rostering and supervising front of house staff and volunteers, and the maintenance and marketing of our public spaces. The FOH Manager will have the energy, vitality and motivation to effectively take overall responsibility for the BATS front of house.

The position requires a knowledge of ticketing and hospitality, coupled with a high level of organisation and excellent interpersonal skills. This is a full time role which may include some occasional evening and weekend hours.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a total belief in BATS' vision and have the ability to work as part of a team. You will have a passion for the arts, take pride in your organisational ability and be able to work with diverse groups of people.

Key Duties:

  • Administration, including ticket bookings, box office reconciliations, archiving, database management;
  • Front of House management, including oversight of the bar, rostering and managing the front of house team, stock management, security, compliance and financial reporting;
  • Volunteer management, growing and supporting BATS volunteer ushers;
  • Liaison with Co-operatives, welcoming and supporting co-ops through seasons;
  • Maintenance of BATS public areas, ensuring clean and tidy public spaces;
  • Marketing and audience development, supporting marketing of BATS spaces, customer relationship management and fundraising initiatives.

Desired Skills / Experience:

  • Working proficiency in PatronBase, Vend POS system, general computer skills (Google Drive, MS Office etc.);
  • Stock ordering and management experience;
  • Highly organised;
  • A responsible and self motivated work ethic;
  • Ability to work as part of a small but busy team;
  • An exceptional and proven ability to deal with diverse groups of people and develop positive relationships;
  • Staff management experience;
  • Working knowledge of event management processes;
  • Current Duty Manager and First Aid certificates an advantage;
  • An understanding and total belief in the BATS kaupapa and vision, and the ability to make it happen.
