Workshop - Production worker

 

Permanent full-time position

Applications are invited for the position of production worker in the set workshop at The Court Theatre.

The Workshop Production Worker is required to assist with the building of all the scenic aspects of all the Theatre’s productions as well as set maintenance and general maintenance where needed as determined by the Construction Manager and the Production Manager. The Production Worker is part of a team of 5 people in the set workshop.

 

The Court Theatre is New Zealand's largest professional theatre company creating at least 15 productions each year. The Court Theatre is a charitable trust and receives funding from the Arts Council of New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, The Christchurch City Council, gaming and grant making trusts and a wide variety of corporate sponsors led by Principal Sponsor, Geisen.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To build sets to a provided design brief, which may be in the form of working drawings, a set model or written or verbal instructions from the appropriate designer or the Construction Manager.
  • To maintain the set of the productions in performance.
  • To assist with all repairs and maintenance of the Theatre’s buildings and equipment as instructed by the Construction Manager.

The position demands a commitment to creative excellence in the delivery of all work and the ability to be flexible in problem solving. It will be an advantage to have prior experience in Theatre industry and working at heights. This is a position in a creative work environment. An ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. The usual place of work is The Court Theatre, Addington in Christchurch. This is a permanent full-time position. A willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings is essential.

 

Key skills

  • Theatre experience
  • Carpentry and Metalwork/Welding skills are essential
  • Scenic artists and Mechanists experience are highly recommended
  • Knowledge of building materials
  • Experience of workshop tools (from hand tools to panel saws)
  • Scissor lift ticket
  • Experience is Props making is an advantage
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Full driver's license
