The Role

The Architect is a full time role based in our Ponsonby office.

The Architect will be responsible for contributing to design choices in reference to platforms, application framework, technical design, coding and technical issues that encompasses both expandable and scalable software based on business standards and customer requirements.

Some key aspects of the position include:

• Provide direction and planning for the development and evolution of the merlot.aero framework
• Help define technology vision as well as develop frameworks and features
• Evaluate vendor systems
• Compose well-structured technical specifications and manage development estimates
• Participate in complex airline operating rule development and rules engine architecture, including business analysis
• Engage in future focused R&D with 3rd parties to ensure structures and processes are engineered for integrity, efficiency, scalability and integration
• Review code to ensure the highest quality is delivered
• Construct a technology and business case for potential architectural roadmap items to inform prioritizing decisions
• Ensure all development practices comply with best practice policies and procedures
• Collaborate with members of the Development team
• Provide direction for both senior and junior members of the team
• Maintain clear and regular communication with key Merlot stakeholders

Qualifications, Skills and Experience we are looking for:

• Relevant computer science or the equivalent bachelor’s degree
• 8 years of experience as a software architect
• Expert knowledge using C#, .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript, JQuery and CSS
• Previous experience of rewriting/refactoring/re-architecture and scaling applications
• Well-practiced in Test Driven Design and application refactoring techniques, .NET based
• Deep knowledge of all technological advances in cloud solutions
• Ability to solve technology problems at a macro (solution) and micro (class) level
• Understanding of database technologies and SQL
• Experience with microservices based solution design
• Service Fabric experience would be an advantage
• CI/CD pipeline development
• TeamCity and/or Octopus experience would be an advantage
• Understanding of data access technologies such as LINQ, ADO.NET
• Use of Microsoft UI technologies e.g. XAML
• Knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft SQL Server
• Outstanding people leadership and management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English required)
• Ability to learn quickly and identify technology trends relevant to merlot
