Data Engineer

Our Wellington Data and Business Intelligence Practice is looking for a Data Engineer who can develop BI/Data solutions to a high level. To be successful in this role you will have a solid technical background and understanding of the full SDLC. Our practice provides a range of services across Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Data Integration, Big Data and Analytics.  In addition to technical knowledge, we’re looking for strong, clear and effective communication skills, and the ability to engage well with the team which comprises of BAs, Tech Leads, Architects, Test Analysts, Developers, Data Scientists and Project Managers. You will also have the confidence and ability to work with customers when required, and your proactivity around communicating any delays will be high.

As the Data Engineer, you’ll provide a range of data services across Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Data Integration and Big Data technologies. Given the diversity of the services, there is a range of projects and clients to work across, so you will have plenty of challenging and interesting work, with strong opportunity for future development.  

 

You will be responsible for solutions to use for collecting, storing, processing, and analysing large sets of data, then maintaining, implementing, and monitoring them. You will also be responsible for integrating solutions with the architecture used within a specified timeframe that meets specifications and conforms to Datacom's standards and guidelines. You are also responsible for testing your work for performance, unit and functional defects and for resolving all issues arising from your development.

 

 

• Experience with developing BI/Data solutions to specification and to a high level within a budgeted timeframe

• The ability to understand projects at a high level and understand your assigned work at a detailed level

• Provision of system documentation as required that is readable, logically structured and accurately reflecting system functionality

• The ability to work cross-functionally to problem solve and provide recommendations

• Input into the design stage, plus input into data retention policies

• Familiarity with Unit Testing and Functional Test Plans

• Good Knowledge of Big Data messaging, proficiency with Hadoop, experience with ETL tools

• ICT tertiary degree

• Experience working in an Agile environment
