The Opportunity

We are currently have a permanent position for a Cloud Platform Engineer to join our innovative and fun Cloud Platform Team.

The role would suit an experienced developer with AWS implementation experience, looking for a new challenge in a supportive environment where you can work autonomously and expand on your cloud build and delivery skills.

This role has an emphasis on build, deployment, support and optimisation as part of Yellow’s internal software development and cloud platform environment.

Cloud Platform – Goals

The goal of the cloud platform is to provide world-class environments and platforms, underpinned by best-of-breed Cloud technologies, that enable Yellow product teams to deliver digital products faster, cheaper and of a higher quality, allowing product teams to focus on delivering business value, and supporting Yellow’s vision and strategy of connecting New Zealand businesses with their customers in compelling and innovative ways.

The cloud platform provides standard templates and blueprints for packaging applications in a portable, consistent and reusable format, and then creating, updating and deploying application environments on-demand in a fully automated fashion.  This is delivered via a suite of products and services including AWS services, continuous delivery systems, and application, system, security and performance monitoring and logging operational tools.

Cloud Platform - Team Structure (Cloud Centre of Excellence)

Yellow’s Cloud Platform is a suite of products & services that includes application hosting, cloud computing, database services and much more. The cloud platform consists of all AWS infrastructure and services, the AWS continuous delivery pipeline and the cloud tools that support Yellow’s cloud hosted applications.

The cloud platform team consists of Cloud Platform Engineers and Cloud Platform Specialists that provides both operational support and project requirements for the business.

The team deliver services such as cloud operations and support, application deployments, application, system and performance monitoring, infrastructure and application logging, cloud security, best practice cloud architecture, principles and guidelines as well as project consult, cloud design and implementation services.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Delivery Support, Tooling & Automation

Delivers hands-on build and deployment requirements in support of Yellow's business and internal cloud projects.

• Responsible for build, deploy and promotion of Yellow applications as part of the continuous delivery process
• Creation of build and deployment reports to capture and measure success metrics
• Responsible for maintaining Yellow's continuous delivery pipeline and the day to day management and life-cycle of CI/CD tooling
• Day to day management of Yellow's software environments (e.g. Dev, QA, Staging, Prod) ensuring consistency of environments and versions

Operations

Day to day operations and support for Yellow’s cloud platform and associated products, services and tools that enables Yellow product teams to deliver digital products faster, more cost effectively and of a higher quality.

• First point of contact for software bugs, issues and tickets logged via Atlassian Jira
• Responsible for incident resolution and root cause analysis related to cloud and application incidents
• Rapid detection, investigation and remediation of security threats

Technology On-boarding & Adoption

The education, adoption and on-boarding of cloud technologies, tools and services for Yellowtech and wider business stakeholders

• On-boarding and regular deep-dive education and training for developers and testers on cloud technologies, tools and the cloud pipeline
• Provides integration and deployment knowledge of Yellow applications located both on-premise and in the cloud
• Ensuring Yellow's Cloud Platform documentation and knowledge base is maintained and up to date

Quality

Ensuring Yellow’s applications are implemented and optimised for the cloud, aligned to best practice cloud architecture, security standards, principles and guidelines.

To be successful you’ll need:

• 3+ years of software/infrastructure technology experience. System Administration, Operations, and/or Software Development.
• 1+ years of specialised cloud experience, AWS experience preferred
• AWS Certification (preferably System Operations or DevOps on AWS)
• Experience working as part of an agile software delivery project team
• Working knowledge of software development tools and methodologies
• Experience in setting up cloud infrastructure (AWS)
• Experience with Python or another scripting language
• Experience with source control management tools e.g. git
• Experience in building and deploying applications
• Experience with issue management software
