The team

This team is pretty new but an essential part of the business, they are strong individually in terms of technical competencies but work together to allow the organisation to be more data driven and able to make better decisions for the organisations that they represent and for the direct people involved as end clients.

What is the role?

The Senior BI Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining a high quality self-service reporting solutions that support this organisation’s analysis and decision making process. The Senior BI Developer must perform maintenance and quality assurance duties throughout the reporting lifecycle. They will be reporting into the BI Manager and work with them to define a BI strategy moving forward as a key player within this high performance team

What will you be doing?

This is a multi faceted role that you can really make your own, essentially a 2IC position to the Manager who will work with you to define the best way of doing things. Your responsibilities can include:

• Contributing to building capability by mentoring, training, coordinating and providing expert advice to other team members
• Contributions to the maintenance and building of a reporting repository , development standards, tips and techniques for tools, building components, test plans, test scripts and project deliverables
• Keep abreast of and maintain up to date business intelligence skills in line with industry leading practice, this can involve new technologies and ways of doing things
• Design, test, implement, and maintain reports, data acquisition and self-service reporting contained in the data environment to support analytical reporting within the Ministry
• Provide environment performance assessment using tuning and optimisation, query optimisation, index tuning, caching and buffer tuning, database health monitoring and diagnostics
• Attend data requirements workshops; provide input to ensure design is accurate and functional from a technical standpoint. Understand business requirements and translate them into robust technical specifications
• Facilitate responses to database issues, outages and recoveries in critical situations, serving as a resource to remedy difficult technical issues

Who are you?

To be in the best position you would have experience in or the capability to show:

• experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and either the Microsoft BI stack, Tableau or Qlik
• Skilled in data projects working with ETL, and related data modelling tools
• designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining solutions in a systematic way
• Understanding of Ralph Kimball and data vault data warehouse methodologies
• The ability to prioritise work and manage multiple tasks through to delivery
• Ability to lead and mentor a team
