Your job profile includes installing, configuring and testing ICT and Network Equipment such as Optical Network Terminal, Fibre optic cabling and circuits and to provide support for the deployment and maintenance of computer systems and network infrastructure and the diagnosis and resolution of technical problems.

This position will be working in a team environment on a large scale project and with minimum supervision. You will also be responsible for thrusting and underground cabling for residential customers, consenting & amp; some open trench work required for new installations.

Your role as Network Technician will require you to coordinate all services for our vendors; to provide support and expertise on all aspects of Fibre line civil work, ROW, OSB; coordinate departmental warehouse purchases; maintain accurate inventory and perform related work as required.

SCOPE:

The Network Technician coordinates fibre installation services for all users within the city and demonstrates a thorough understanding of the capabilities and features of fibre optic cabling, switches, and network equipment

As an ICT Network Technician Suitable applicants will possess:

  • Looking after our customer's installations and services. Experience primarily in all aspects of working with premises wiring, both residential and small business. Stringing wire throughout a home or commercial building. Once installed test the line & signal strength.
  • Fibre and Fusion splicing in domestic as well as commercial properties. Have knowledge of fibre optics cable on splicing and handling and understanding copper cable jointing.
  • Locating faults in lines and/or in equipment using appropriate tools.
  • Liaise with ISPs to troubleshoot and correct connectivity issues.
  • Setting up the LAN for customers, including configuring customer's equipment to the specifications.
  • Providing ongoing operational supports for troubleshooting, optimizing ICT network performance at all terminals including FAT, installing FAT, Hand hole and Chorus pit. ABFFP, Network Cabinet, and Customer's end.
  • Integrating and Configuring ICT devices and tools. Installing and Configuring Modem/Router. Programming ONT (Optical Network Terminal).
  • Connects fibre optic cables to networking outlets and between network outlets. To troubleshoot a line to locate a fault and splice in new line to replace damaged cable.
  • Scoping & planning the civil work also studying Chorus & other underground services plans. Underground trenching for laying micro-ducts, fixed fibre, pipes and conduits, civil pole work
  • Fibre hauling & blowing, Concrete cutting & reinstating
  • Conduct thorough underground asset identification and locating (e.g. Water, gas, electricity, drains etc.)
  • Fit, energetic and reliable person required to work in a team environment Must be a self-starter, work autonomously and work well in a team environment.
  • Install terminal boxes, insulation, and other auxiliary equipment, such as signal boosters.
  • Sets up a network connection on a host computer/laptop by logging the default network settings, such as IP addressing, proxy, network name and ID/password, to enable network connection and communication.
  • To performing maintenance and repair work examine lines and use electrical equipment to test for damage. Test the instruments functioning
  • To do all paper work such as safety forms, Take 5, consent forms and look after health and safety norms as per Government

You will receive:

  • Base Salary plus bonuses, up to $40000 & $70,000 or more depending on your speed, efficiency and how smart & hard you perform. Uncapped incentives so you can earn as much as you want

Along with the relevant tertiary skills and a strong knowledge of the telecommunications industry, successful candidates will:

- Have full drivers license and be comfortable driving a van

- Be a NZ resident or have a NZ work visa or have valid visa to work

- Technical Qualifications on IT/Electronics/Electrical & Telecommunication will be advantage.

- Have excellent customer service skills

- Be competent with hand/power tools, and other technical equipment 

- The ability to travel to other areas to assist the business as required

- Have the physical ability to carry out manual labour including digging, trenching, working under basements etc. 

- Be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces

- Have the ability to work competently in an unsupervised environment

- Prepare required paperwork in a timely manner

- Be able to communicate effectively & be computer literate 

- Have undertaken the relevant safety courses (course training  can be provided)

- Site safe Construction passport

- Have completed Chorus WTC courses  (WTC1A, WTC3,      BASIC TC1 OR STMS LEVEL1)
