Our client is a well-established (and growing) New Zealand innovation success story. This national retail business has reached an exciting and pivotal stage in its growth due to their drive to ever evolve their service to customers. Due to its continued commitment to being on the forefront of digital technology and to offer their customers the very best of modern consumer experiences, the company is implementing a new structure to further align itself with the digital age now and into the future. A new role has been created to manage the people, processes and technologies of the software development domain

 
The Role

This exciting new role is about managing the practices, processes, delivery, innovation and people across a diverse tech stack and challenges. You will lead this broad and senior software engineering team of 6 developers and 2 tech leads. So, in adopting an approach of Agile/SCRUM-based, CI/CD product development you`ll be the key decision maker for the development team, and are responsible for the execution and delivery SAP, Java, mobile, and C#.Net.  And for the team members, you will set-up goals, review progress and discuss career advancement all while keeping them engaged, motivated and on-track. Being naturally dynamic, you will cultivate a culture that meets the needs of the growing market and constantly raises (retail) industry expectations. So you need to be able to pick up the processes and challenges quickly, be a team player, achievement focused, meticulous, and innovative in your approach. You will view yourself as a true professional in the software field and will be willing (and able) to get your hands dirty in the coding 20% of your time, or as needed.

There is a genuine scope for this position to evolve into senior leadership. Previous incumbents of the role are testament to this sound structural plan

 
What we need to see in your background

• A lengthy and robust, hands-on career in software development in Java AND .Net (minimum 8+ years)
• You have a strong background in implementing modern delivery best practices like DevOps and CI/CD and Agile
• Proven background collaborating with QA, Architecture, Product teams, and infrastructure (AWS) to release software in a timely fashion
• You're a cloud native, and it's imperative that you are comfortable and well versed in supporting the Cybersecurity, DevOps, and Automation testing practices
• Culture is huge here; you take it seriously too. Attention to detail, ability to turn ambiguity into clarity collaboration, communication and powers of influence are significant attributes of yours
• You're a stellar communicator, disseminating issues or project details effectively with direct reports, peers and senior management stakeholders
