Thames-Coromandel District Council is undergoing a period of transformational change. We have identified significant areas for improvement in Council's capabilities, processes and systems to meet the current and future needs of the organisation. This represents an unprecedented chance to be part of a ground-up reimagining of what local government looks like.

 

Using a systematic approach to capabilities assessment across the organisation, a number of priorities have emerged, which are forming a body of work across the next five to ten years.

 

An opportunity has arisen for a Database Administrator. Work in the IT department with Council’s Business Intelligence Specialist and support users of Council’s core systems in a busy and challenging environment. You will have strong problem-solving skills, and deep technical knowledge.

 

You should demonstrate a strong technical ability across the Microsoft SQL stack, as well as the ability to work with the wider teams.  This role will mainly focus on monitoring, ETL, and release management.

 

You will also provide support, maintenance and administration of the SQL Servers (2008-2016) deployed within Council environments, including a mixture of in-house and supplier-developed environments. You should be accustomed to best practices frameworks for change management and release management.

 

The ideal candidate will have

  • 5 years’ experience of administrating and developing Microsoft SQL Server 2008-2016
  • Query performance tuning and optimisation experience
  • Capacity planning, disaster recovery, SQL Server performance optimisation skills essential
  • Usage of Availability groups, Clusters, Mirrors and Replication
  • Good understanding of ETL processes, SSIS packages design and maintenance
  • Experience in writing and maintaining complex SQL, triggers, and procedures (T-SQL savvy)
  • Experience of SQL migration from 2008 to 2012/16
  • Experience with Reporting Services (2008/2016) administration and maintenance; report design
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical documentation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Analysis Services would be advantageous
