Here at Inland Revenue (IR) we are well advanced into a multi-year business transformation which will modernise our entire operation. As a customer-centric organisation, IR's goal is to give customers the best possible experience when using the NZ tax system. This is resulting in significant changes to how we operate and engage with customers, and the way that our people undertake their work. 

A key role in our Information Technology & Change group will be the role of Principal Security Advisor.  Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), this position will provide day-to-day governance on the delivery of IR's Information Security strategies, roadmaps and compliance requirements.

As the Principal Security Advisor, you will provide strong leadership and advice the CISO of any risks, opportunities and status of key priorities on the general security of IR. You will also be the CISO's ‘go to person' and represent the CISO's interests in their absence.

In this role you will be expected to achieve the following accountability expectations:

• Develop new concepts of how IR will deliver information security strategies and outcomes in the future
• Ensure security strategies and plans are considerate of the information provided by various technology research advisory organisations
• Identifying issues of strategic risk to the CISO's objectives and key priorities
• Provide clear direction that builds IR's future security maturity and stated information security values
• Manage key stakeholders and vendors relationship on behalf of the CISO
• Evaluate the security posture of vendors, customers and stakeholders and identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and performance of the delivery of information security
• Lead Cyber Security events and incidents by working closely with other team and external resources

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills to establish and maintain effective relationships across a range of stakeholders and customers inside and external to IR
• Excellent communications skills with the ability to challenge, persuade and influence
  • Formal qualifications and/or significant experience in Information Security are preferred
  • Experience in operating at a similar level in a large or complex organisation

• Proven experience in developing strategies and frameworks
• Proven track record in developing useful metrics and reports to executives relating to information security 
• Experience in conducting analytical work and reporting technical matters in ways that senior executives can easily understand
