About the role
Sitting within the Hosting Services team, this role would best fit an experienced systems administrator / technical support person who is keen to get more into a DevOps Engineer role. A typical day would look something like this:
- System Maintenance
- Responding to monitoring systems
- Monitoring and managing incidents handling and debugging application servers
- Maintenance building and upgrading
- Ad hoc managed services including deployment and upgrades
- Supporting the wider team with rostered on-call duties
- Planned Automation activity

Skills and experience
- Advanced with Linux Administration
- Experience using Java EE Applications (WebSphere, JBoss etc.)
- Exposure to application servers using JBoss and Wildfly
- Basic database skills using Oracle and SQL Server with experience in at least one scripting language and networking skills (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPN, DNS, load balancing etc.)
- Installation and configuration of operating systems, middleware and application software components
- Development of operation, monitoring and automation tools (ansible, puppet, chef, nagios etc.) will be an advantage
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Hands-on approach with a proven ability to learn new technologies
- Ability to distinguish between your technical and business audience
