- Install, troubleshoot and repair telecommunications cabling media
- Tests cable for signal quality, continuity, and availability

The primary responsibilities of the OSP Technician is to install, troubleshoot and repair a broad range of telecommunications cabling media. Installs cable racks, conduits and other support structures for the protection and aesthetics of cables. Tests cable for signal quality, continuity, and availability. Terminates and splices cables. Maintains control of outside plant activities around assigned work sites, taking and maintaining accurate field notes, supporting project timelines, and inspecting, designing and providing accurate work processes.

- Faults and Service restoration
- Pull telecommunications cabling through a wide variety of building architectures (both permanent and temporary, including tactical) through buried conduit (outside plant) routed between buildings, ceilings, raised floors and cable troughs.
- Interpret buried/hidden wires in records, on maps and in the field with sufficient clarity and detail
- Develop, implement and maintain all cable records and diagrams using database software
- Troubleshoot and correct both copper and fiber optic cable problems for lack of continuity, noise, signal loss and degradation, improper termination, excessive loss and intermittent problems
- Recognise and repair route issues
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Specific skills required are:
- Minimum two years’ experience with cable, telephone and Local Area Network
- Telco network & OSP cabling practical experience
- Recognized OSP qualifications
- Fibre Optic cabling & splicing experience
- Ethernet cabling experience
- Ability to work with clients regarding engineering problems, confer with customer representatives whilst communicating work with OSP Team Manager.
- Ability to make a good decision based on information given
- In-depth understanding of technology based services, products and networking
- Ability to learn new products, procedures, and programs
- Ability to pay close attention to detail, and make sound decision using information at hand
