About the company;
Summerset is one of NZ's fastest growing companies and the third largest retirement village operator in the country. Operating under a unique end-to-end business model, we source, design, procure, build, cost control and operate retirement villages across New Zealand. At present we have a pipeline of projects worth $2.3b being built over the next decade – that’s a construction spend of $230m per year.

Our villages at present can be worth $200-400m each and can vary in size and footprint – up to 4.3 hectares and structures occupying 50,000 + square metres. All of our villages are master planned and incorporate many elements you would find in a small city.

About the role;
As Senior Design Manager, within the Development Team, you will provide direct support to the Head of Design Development. You will be responsible for individual design projects and their programme management through; site master planning, concept and preliminary design phases and required design management processes. You will do this while ensuring that you adhere to industry best practice for the design process, providing Summerset with high-quality outcomes.

This coveted role will see you working closely with Nick Milnes our Head of Design, Development and Melanie Parry, Senior Design Manager, Development. Both will work with you to further your career whilst having you work on a range of front-end work. Other interfaces will be the Development Managers and Design Managers and technicians that work in both our Development and Construction divisions.

What we need from you;
The ability to evidence experience working as an Architect in a practice or client-side role (maybe for a developer) where you have been responsible for front-end design (master planning) on commercial and/or residential projects. You will need to understand constructability as you will be responsible for the look and feel of the whole village.

You will have experience with urban design, resource consents, master-planning and presentations to stakeholders. It would be advantageous if you have retirement village or healthcare sector experience.

Lastly, you will be tertiary qualified in Architecture or similar and ideally be a Registered Architect or hold LBP level 3.

What you get in return;
The opportunity to work with an award-winning team that realises large-scale urban projects of note. These projects will provide you with a range of complex challenges as a Design Manager, the business is growing and we see you growing with us.

Of course, none of this would be complete without providing you with a market rated remuneration package in line with your experience. We also offer a range of benefits like subsidised health insurance, access to a staff share scheme and Koru lounge access for frequent flyers.
