Applications are invited for a permanent, full-time position as Technical Demonstrator at Ngā Pae Māhutonga, The School of Design, within the College of Creative Arts (CoCA) on the Massey University Wellington Campus.

The Technical Demonstrator will be responsible for providing 3D Design Workshop inductions and demonstration of techniques and technologies, including CAD/CAM, associated with model making practice, design skills, materials and processes; the supervision of student use of the workshops to meet health and safety policies; the production of design models and associated material in support of the research activities of the College; the operation and maintenance of workshop equipment and facilities; as well as providing general technical support duties as required.

The contemporary portfolio of courses, faculty of internationally recognised leaders in design research and practice, and world-class facilities provide an ideal environment for students to realise their full creative potential.

This role presents a unique opportunity to support teaching and research in a practical, educational environment with experience across a range of digital fabrication and CAM/CAD technologies and the operation of rapid, additive and subtractive manufacturing CNC equipment. Equipment experience and knowledge should include CNC mill, waterjet cutter, laser cutter and 3D printer plus software knowledge including Rhino, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office.

The candidate must have a proven ability to work both cooperatively and independently, a willingness and aptitude to learn new skills and accept delegated authority and the ability to supervise and mentor individuals as well as groups of creative people and ensure they maintain safe and healthy work practices. You will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing demands and conditions and you can prioritise tasks while remaining calm and focused.

Applicants will have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or proven experience in design or industry using equivalent workshop equipment and practices.
