YMCA Camp Adair is on the look-out for motivated, outgoing and passionate staff to join the team. You will be working on a range of outdoor activities on our large residential facility with diverse groups. Camp Adair offers a wide range of outdoor education programmes for individuals, schools and corporate groups. As an Outdoor Instructor you will be leading clients in activities like:  High Ropes, Climbing, Hiking, Kayaking and much more. As well as providing support for groups on site as required.

The role of an Outdoor Education Instructor is one full of adventure as you instruct our outdoor educational programmes, maintaining the facility and equipment, working on week long holiday programmes, and providing general support for groups during their stay. We are looking for up to 14 individuals to join our Camp Adair team, with start dates listed below. Work will be required mostly through the weekdays between 8am-7pm, but occasionally you will be required to work on the weekend and evenings as the hours vary depending on the programme.

 

The job requires:

  • Ability to work with children
  • An understanding of risk management
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A strong work ethic, be hard working and reliable

We would prefer candidates to;

  • A full drivers licence
  • A current First Aid certificate
  • Experience in the outdoors and specifically in climbing
  • NZOIA or NZQA qualifications
  • Ability to draw from personal experience with the activities we offer

 

Contracts on offer:

  • 7x fixed term (27/8/18-24/5/19)
    • Off-season 8-20 hours per week (8 minimum guaranteed)
    • On-season 24-32+ hours per week (24 minimum guaranteed)
  • 7x peak season fixed term (8/10/18- April/May ‘19)
    • 8-20+ hours per week (8 minimum guaranteed)
    • Christmas close-down (approximately 3-4 weeks)

 

All positions would likely have the opportunity to have casual work before these contracts, all positions also have the possibility of extension or movement to casual.

We provide training to develop your skills and enable you to coordinate and lead activities. As weekend work may be required, candidates will need to be flexible with work hours. For appropriate candidates we may be able to provide accommodation on-site. For those wanting to live on-site there is also the opportunity to be on-call, benefits of which are an on-call allowance and improved accommodation options. Due to the seasonal nature of the role, it is subject a close-down period for approximately 1 month over Christmas/New Year.
