Since its establishment in 2001, Sport Central has proved an unqualified success in providing leadership, training, guidance, and support to the wider Central Otago region.
- Based in Wanaka, this new role is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of community sport projects in the Central Otago region. This involves:
- Improving the delivery and capability of sport through the provision of sports consultancy services (advice, leadership, and training).
- Maintaining and developing initiatives and opportunities with sports to enable Sport Otago/Sport Central to maximise its potential as a leader in the sport and physical activity sector.
- Driving the coordination and implementation of facility development across the region, in accordance with the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago Regional Sport and Recreation Facilities Strategy.
The position, which is supported by resources and expertise provided by Sport Otago, requires applicants to possess:
- A tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience in sport management or recreation and leisure; or significantly transferrable skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proven data collection, analysis, and report writing skills.
- The ability to influence and work in a team across different sectors, e.g. Territory Authorities, Regional Sports Organisations, schools, and community organisations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- The ability to create strong community networks.
- The ability to motivate and have empathy with volunteers.
- A high level of leadership and motivation.
- A proven track record of performance.
