YMCA Camp Adair is on the look-out for qualified, motivated and passionate outdoor professionals. You will be working on a range of outdoor activities on our large residential facility with diverse range of clients.

As a Senior Outdoor Instructor you will be leading clients in activities like: High Ropes, Climbing, Hiking, Kayaking and much more. Additionally, Senior Outdoor Instructors lead a team of instructors with support from the Programme Manager and support in the provision of staff training as well as being given responsibility over areas of the business such as Rope checks. We are looking for 3 individuals to permanently join our Camp Adair team, with the start date in August 2018. Normal hours of work are: weekdays between 8am-7pm, but you may be required to work weekends and evenings. This job is permanent part-time, working a minimum 32 hours in peak season and between 16-24 hours in the low season. Hours will likely range up to 40 per week in high season.

 

The job requires:

  • Experienced and competent in delivering outdoor activities offered (climbing/high ropes in particular)
  • Ability to use personal experience to further develop sessions according to client requirements
  • Ability to work independently across different cultures and ages
  • Current first aid certificate (preference to those with Outdoor First Aid or PHEC)
  • Current clean/full driver’s license
  • Preferable to have NZOIA or NZQA, qualifications
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft based programmes
  • Working understanding of risk management within the Outdoor Industry
  • Excellent communication skills

 

For appropriate candidates we may be able to provide accommodation on-site. For those wanting to live on-site there is also the opportunity to be on-call, benefits of which are an on-call allowance and improved accommodation options. Due to the seasonal nature of the role, it is subject to two close-down periods, one for approximately 2 months over winter and the other for approximately 1 month over Christmas/New Year.
