Murrays Bay Sailing Club – Learn to Sail Head Coach
Founded in 1958, Murrays Bay Sailing is located on the beautiful north shore of Auckland. Our aim is to be the club that provides young sailors with the best possible environment and opportunity to sail fast and achieve excellence in the sports of centreboard sailing. Murrays Bay Sailing Club finished building a new clubhouse in 2015, and has a beautiful new facility to offer young sailors a chance to try sailing for the first time.
For the 2018/2019 season, Murrays Bay Sailing Club is seeking a head learn to sail coach to help introduce the next generation of young sailors to the club.
Responsibilities include
• Daily coaching of the sailors during program times – Wednesday evenings, Saturday all day, and Sunday mornings, as well as scheduled holiday programs
◦ Term 4 program runs 10 weeks, early October to mid December
◦ Term 1 program runs 10 weeks, first week of February to Easter
◦ Holiday programs
▪ End of term 3 (early October)
▪ Before term 1 (mid-January)
▪ After term 1 (mid-April)
• Working with the club manager to identify sailors' next steps through the Murrays Bay program
• Educating parents on the pathway of boats through the Murrays Bay Sailing Club program
• Helping the class rep ensuring all sailors are registered in the club-hub Membership data base
• Answering parent email inquiries regarding the Learn to Sail program
• Scheduling and mentorship of buddy coaches (those new to coaching)
Knowledge and background
• Learn to Sail coaching level, or international equivalent
• Experience coaching learn to sail level programs
• Must be comfortable learning, or have prior knowledge of, the club hub registration system
• Will be supported by the Murrays Bay Sailing Club Manager, as well as the LTS class rep, to better understand the daily and seasonal needs of the program
Remuneration & hours
This position has varying hours but will usually average out to be 20-25 hours week, with more during the start and finish of the program.
• Approximately 16 hours/week (4 Wednesday, 4 Sunday, 8 Saturday) are direct sailor coaching hours.
• 4-9 hours/week (depending on the week) are allotted as administrative hours
◦ This includes program parent communications (phone, email), as well as registration inquiries and troubleshooting.
• Salary is commensurate with experience.
Additional info.
• Official start date is October 1st, 2018 and goes until the week before summer holidays. The program then starts up again in early January, and runs until approximately Easter, 2019.
• This role is being advertised elsewhere and has the potential to be filled before the last date to indicate interest, provided the right candidate has been found.
The person hired for this position is an independent contractor to Murrays Bay Sailing Club, and has a fixed period described above. Additional learn to sail off season opportunities might present themselves to the right candidate
