Volleyball Bay of Plenty requires an Events Manager.  They will be responsible for the running and development of all Volleyball Bay of Plenty’s competitions.  The Events Manager will report directly to the Volleyball Bay of Plenty Board and work in closely with the Administration Role.  We are seeking someone with strong self-management skills, the ability to work independently and in a team.  Some knowledge of Volleyball would be an advantage.  There is also some heavy lifting for packing up and packing down and setting up beach nets and indoor equipment therefore the position requires to be physically fit.  This is a contract position and while the hours are flexible there are certain times (an event day) that attendance is mandatory.

The role includes, but not limited to, the following tasks:

Competitions & Events

•  Must be able to create draws and draw formats for a variety of situations

•  Deliver, manage and development of Indoor and Beach Volleyball competitions in the Bay of Plenty including promotion, printing/supplying of scoresheets, draws and results etc

•  Liaise with and support the provision of volleyball events and services provided by affiliated organisations

•  Manage the running of any regional, national or international events that are held in this Region

•  Maintain accurate draws and results on Volleyball Bay of Plenty's website/facebook page

•  Ensure competitions/events are well organised, enjoyable for participants and meet budget

•  Provide adequate pre-competition / pre- event information to all potential attending teams

•  Manage prize-giving for events if required

•  Evaluate the success of each competition and event and make suggestions for future improvements

Human Resources

•  Recruitment & management of casual staff and volunteers as required for running all competitions

Administration, Communications & Social Media

•  Assist the Administration Manager in Administering all the office functions at

Volleyball Bay Plenty, including correspondence, email and telephone communication

•  Manage and keep updated Volleyball Bay Plenty’s Facebook/Website Page

•  Monthly written report to the Board of Volleyball Bay Of Plenty

•  Regular Communication to the volleyball community

Desired Qualifications

•  Excellent computer skills and proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook

•  Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

•  Competence with social media

•  Demonstrates leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.

•  A working knowledge of volleyball Bay of Plenty events

•  Excels at operating in a fast pace, community environment

•  Excellent people manager, open to direction and a collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done

•  Ability to look at situations from several points of view

It is envisaged this role is a full time contract role for the period October 2018 - March 2019.  Hours required would be a minimum of 15-20 hours per week for event preparation etc. In addition to the above, attendance at events would expect on average 10-25 hours per week extra.  The position would require some weekend and week night hours.  It could suit a work from home option with an option of facilities (printing etc) available via SportBOP offices.
