Are you passionate about the conservation of New Zealand's natural flora and fauna, skilled and experienced in setting goals and delivering on these in the field and up for a challenge?

Hauraki has one of the richest early history's in Aotearoa, with some of the earliest agriculture recorded in this country located here. The area is home to significant biodiversity, historic and visitor values.  These include nationally significant populations of threatened fauna and flora, two internationally significant Ramsar wetland sites, a network of 200 km of walking tracks, campgrounds, a modern visitor centre, the largest DOC hut (Pinnacles) and remnants of a rich gold-mining and logging history.

Thames and its surroundings offer a great lifestyle, community spirit and schooling options.

So why not come and join our team?

As a Senior Ranger in Hauraki, you will be based in Thames and work closely with our treaty partners, other government agencies, communities and businesses on biodiversity projects across the full spectrum of pest control, species and ecosystem management.

You will lead the development of the district's biodiversity workplan and in collaboration with the Biodiversity Supervisor support its implementation.

As part of the District's senior leadership team you will contribute to the shaping of the district's overall workplan.

Ideally you will have:

  • a formal qualification, or equivalent relevant experience related to natural heritage (flora, fauna or ecosystems) or conservation management
  • experience in management of freshwater ecosystems, in particular wetlands
  • experience in the practical management of threatened plant and animal populations and the execution of pest control operations
  • experience and a positive attitude in working with treaty partners and stakeholders
  • strong project management skills and experience
  • excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills
  • the ability to think strategically and act operationally

If this sounds like the position that you have been waiting for we'd love to hear from you!
