A team leader is required for the Department of Conservation team who work across South Canterbury.  There is a great team of motivated staff to lead across a wide range of conservation work.  

 

The Operations Manager's focus is to lead the high performing Geraldine team to deliver quality conservation outcomes. 

 

This role requires a great people leader.  We need someone who is skilled at inspiring, motivating and directing teams and who can shape a culture which values team work, continuous improvement, partnerships with iwi and working with the South Canterbury community. Experience in conservation or environmental management would be advantageous.

 

The ability to build strong collaborative relationships internally and externally is vital to the job, to achieve goals and build on conservation efforts in the District.  In many areas, iwi and community groups are leading conservation work.  These relationships need to be fostered and supported by the Operations Manager.

 

The work of the team includes pest control and biodiversity programmes, the maintenance of popular camping grounds and public walking tracks, working alongside our Treaty Partners and community groups, and ensuring we perform to statutory requirements.

 

The Operations Manager also provides specialist knowledge and support on local conservation activities to the Director, Operations Eastern South Island region, and DOC nationally.

 

Health and Safety of staff and visitors to conservation sites is of utmost importance to DOC, and this role is charged with creating a strong safety-first environment, ensuring there is a positive safety culture and consistent safety practice across all work sites.
