Contract: Permanent full-time
Hours of work will be: 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Location: SPCA New Lynn

Our ideal Scientific Officer will:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, preferably at a post-graduate level. Ideally, with a PhD or MSc in animal welfare.
- A proven interest in and knowledge of animal welfare and commitment to the mission of the SPCA.
- Ability to develop good working relationships with a wide variety of individuals and organisations.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work under pressure and the ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload and meet fixed deadlines.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively and to react quickly to a range of different demands.
- Well-developed research and analytical skills.
- Experience of completing critical reviews of scientific literature, scientific reports, papers, letters and information sheets.
- Working knowledge of statistics including experience of managing and analysing technical data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to be able to communicate complex scientific information to a broad range of audiences.
- Project management.
- Computer literate with a familiarity with electronic database management.
- Ability to prioritise own workload and to manage own time efficiently.
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team with staff inside the Animal Welfare Science & Education Department and with professionals from other organizations.
