This is a fixed term role for five (5) years

Are you passionate about island conservation? Ever dreamed of working in New Zealand's wild Subantarctic region?

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the initial stages of a project at the forefront of international island conservation. The role is with a DOC project team investigating feasibility and undertaking initial planning for a project to eradicate remaining mammalian pests (pigs, cats and mice) from Auckland Island (465 km south of Bluff) in New Zealand's World Heritage listed subantarctic region.

The Department of Conservation is seeking a talented and experienced person to design, plan and coordinate a large-scale infrastructure programme to support pest eradication operations on the remote Auckland Island.

The positions focus will be to provide specialist skills to ensure quality design and planning for infrastructure (e.g. accommodation, tracks, storage shelters), and associated transport and storage logistics. The role is based in Invercargill. The successful applicant will be largely office based during the planning phase and will also lead work on Auckland Island for periods to inform planning and preparations. You will enjoy working as part of a team in a challenging environment and will be physically fit and capable in remote field situations.

The ambitious project is nationally significant and will have tangible benefits for unique wildlife on a large-scale. The project is aligned with the Predator Free New Zealand initiative's interim goal for ‘Eradication of predators from New Zealand's Island Nature Reserves by 2025'. Success will be dependent on quality planning and delivery through teamwork.

The successful applicant will be adaptable and motivated with proven performance in logistics and infrastructure planning and delivery. You will be a practical thinker and have strong planning and organisational skills including report writing and contract management.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
