Then we could have the ideal role for you. We currently have a Part Time Assistant Aquarist vacancy within our team at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Auckland.
About the Role
Reporting to the Team Leader of the Fish Department, this role is responsible for assisting the Curatorial Team in ensuring best practice animal husbandry as well as providing an amazing experience to our visitors. You will have the opportunity to work across all exhibits within the Aquarium.
Your duties include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with daily husbandry, management and welfare of the animal collection
- Helping to develop and maintain excellent and innovative animal exhibits that deliver an exceptional visitor experience
- Food preparation and feeding of fish and marine animals
- Cleaning and maintaining the exhibits and quarantine tanks
- Feed presentations
- Guiding groups for snorkelling, diving and other activities
- This position requires intensive diving for feeding, cleaning and animal husbandry
About You
The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about and have an understanding of animals and will display commitment, loyalty and a strong work ethic. Aquatic animal husbandry experience/ knowledge would be a definite advantage, in addition to physical fitness as some heavy lifting will be involved. You will also have:
- Marine biology knowledge
- Weekend availability
- Commitment to excellent customer service
- Diving certification, ideally to the level of PADI Divemaster or above
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Medical Clearance for Occupational Diving
- The ability to work weekends and public holidays as required
- Full drivers licence
