Detail information about job Kaitakawaenga – Student Financial Capability (Auckland Based). Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Join a passionate team committed to growing financial capability for NZ'ers.
  • Opportunity to really make a difference with rangatahi Māori.
  • Brand new role influencing the long-term wellbeing outcomes for Māori.

The Commission for Financial Capability doesn't have an exciting name, yet our approach is anything but dull. You might know us for our award-winning sorted.org.nz website but there's much more to us than that.  As a thought leader in our field, CFFC is working to transform and lead the way we achieve sustained behaviour change with financial capability for Māori.  Our brand new Kaitakawaenga – Student Financial Capability role is at the heart of this.

The Kaitakawaenga works proactively with Māori tamariki mokopuna and their whānau, hapū/iwi, and Māori medium education learning institutions to create engagement with the CFFC Schools strategy - Māori students accessing meaningful opportunities to grow their financial capability in an education setting.

The Kaitakawaenga, while working as part of the CFFC Schools Team, will lead the Māori Medium workstream for CFFC and for the Sorted in Schools programme.  This role plays an integral part in the wider organisation bridging knowledge and fostering understanding to learners, their families/whānau, special and regular educators, kura management and community groups on programme development. Having a good understanding of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa is critical.

This role requires significant travel to work with kura and community in their environment. It will require the understanding of local tikanga and a high level of proficiency of te reo Māori to engage and represent kura and their communities. The role requires you to champion and co-ordinate messages on financial capability as a behavioural change programme, one which harnesses positive change and drives cultural integrity as a central point to work from.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • High proficiency in te reo Māori and a strong understanding of tikanga Māori.
  • Tertiary level qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline.
  • At least 2-3 years experience in a Māori organisation, in the kura space would be ideal.
  • Understand the curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
  • Understand the distinct differences between Māori communities.
  • Sound understanding of government systems and processes.
  • Adept at managing multiple stakeholder relationships.

What we offer

  • A passionate and innovative team environment, we're not your typical government agency,
  • A people centric culture focused on wellness, teamwork, diversity and flexibility,
  • The ability to really make a difference to the lives of young New Zealanders.

Please check out sorted.org.nz or cffc.org.nz to get a flavour of our work.  For a copy of the position description please go to cffc.org.nz.

Note that we will expect significant domestic travel in this role, so candidates must enjoy this aspect of the position and be comfortable being away on a regular basis.
