The Goodwood Park Healthcare Group is a progressive rehabilitation-based organisation and a leading provider of support services for people who have a mental health illness, traumatic brain injury or spinal injury, or in some cases, a dual diagnosis.

We run a variety of services, but specific to this role is our Supported Living Service. This is a community based service that plays an integral role in supporting people with serious injuries (TBI or Spinal Injuries) to maintain and increase their independence, regain old and develop new skills, integrate into the community and improve their quality of life. Our contract is with ACC so 90% of our clients are suffering the after effects of a serious injury.

Our Supported Living Support Workers provide direct support to the client in their own environment and within the community. Their goal is to enable independence and a higher quality of life for the client.

Tasks of A Supported Living Support Worker include the following:

  • Assist clients in becoming more independent by providing support and encouragement to reintegrate into the workplace and community living.
  • Encourage clients to seek natural circles of support rather than professional supports.
  • Assist clients in becoming more actively involved in their local community.
  • Support clients to transition from their family home or residential care facility to independent living in a community setting.
  • Support clients to achieve personal goals they have set and report on their progress.
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients.
  • Liaise effectively with clients’ significant others and natural supports.
  • Effectively complete all required client documentation and reporting.
  • Provide care in line with all relevant health and disability legislation, and the organisations policies and procedures.
  • Actively pursue your own professional development as provided and encouraged by the organisation.

We currently have opportunities available for experienced support workers with the following skills and knowledge (preferred but not essential):

  • Minimum of two years experience working in the disability field, preferably within the community
  • Minimum of a level 4 NZ qualification in the health/disability field
  • Experience working with people with Traumatic Brain and/or spinal injuries
  • Experience working with males and clients with complex behaviours
  • Computer literate and skilled in the use of Word, Excel and Outlook
  • In depth knowledge of local communities and community resources
  • Eligible to work in NZ for a minimum of 12 months

This is a Community-based role and travel across the Northland region is required with the use of a pool vehicle, therefore a full, clean drivers licence is required. This position is currently part-time with negotiable hours.

The Goodwood Park Healthcare Group has a full staff training program, and successful applicants will be supported to access further training and career development opportunities.
