At Oranga Tamariki–Ministry for Children, we want to ensure that all tamariki are in loving whānau and communities where oranga tamariki can be realised.

Our focus is on children and young people who are at significant risk of harm now and into the future as a consequence of their family environment, and/or their own complex needs or who have offended or may offend in the future.

We are now looking for a Youth Justice Coordinator to join our team located across the Greater Wellington Region.

The Youth Justice team work in partnership with young offenders and their families, iwi, courts, Police Youth Aid, Youth Development Officers, Council Youth Workers, schools, and community organisations to find the right local solutions to reduce the rate and severity of youth re-offending. 

The Youth Justice Coordinator works with families and the wider community to hold the young person accountable and to address the factors which have led them to offend. The Youth Justice Coordinator will incorporate a restorative justice approach within their practice. They utilise the combined knowledge of community resources, networks and opportunities to create an alternative offending free future for the young person.    

You will also be responsible for managing Family Group Conferences (FGCs) in terms of the Children, Young Persons and their Families Act 1989. 

Through your experience you will bring with you excellent group facilitation and mediation skills, along with experience in the youth justice/social services sector and sound knowledge of youth law and/or practice.

To be successful in this role, you will:
