The Company
HLC (2017) Limited (HLC) was initially established to develop Hobsonville Point. Our mandate has now been extended to other large scale housing projects, increasing from one project at Hobsonville Point to a number of projects across Auckland, as part of the Government’s commitment to addressing housing pressures in Auckland. Our aim is to increase the supply of suitable land to enable the building of new, quality homes in existing Auckland urban communities, with a focus on State and Affordable homes.
The Role
HLC are going through an exciting growth phase as our projects progress and, as a result, we are now seeking a Community Development and Engagement Coordinator. Reporting to the Strategic Relationships and Engagement Manager, this role will provide support to to ensure positive HLC relationships are maintained with community stakeholders and a community development approach is fostered on all HLC projects. Specifically focused on the Māngere communities, the role will primarily be responsible for:
- Managing integral relationships with key local community networks, leaders, residents and other entities involved in the Auckland Housing Programme
- Understanding the communities' aspirations and ensuring that HLC's redevelopment activities support these local aspirations and facilitate positive change
- Coordination and project management of a range of placemaking, community and sustainability initiatives across multiple projects
- Developing and supporting community programmes across multiple projects
- Creating strong relationships between the internal and external parties, community, stakeholders and builder partners
This role will be an integral part of a support team working across a number of complex projects at differing stages of completion. As a result, to be a success in this role you will need to have the ability to engage with, and develop, community networks. You will need to be highly organised, have exceptional relationship management skills, the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people, have a high level of integrity, and possess proven negotiation and organisation skills. Whilst based at our brand new Hobsonville Point offices, regular travel to South Auckland, including our Māngere, Oranga and Mt Roskill communities will be required, so a clean driver's licence is a must!
The following experience and qualifications are critical to this role:
- Tertiary qualification in a field relevant to working with communities to achieve placemaking and sustainability outcome or equivalent work experience - minimum of 5 years
- Computer literacy in MS Word, and Excel are essential
- Understanding of South Auckland communities
- A good understanding of community development and participation principles
- Experience in consulting, engaging and informing community groups
