The UniVol Programme is a collaboration between VSA and Otago, Victoria, Auckland and Massey Universities.

The programme provides a personal and professional development opportunity for selected candidates to work with VSA partner organisations overseas and contribute to development education in New Zealand. If selected for the programme, you'll volunteer on a 10-month assignment in 2019. Living in a local community immersed in everyday life, you'll gain practical experience and in-depth understanding of international development issues while contributing to locally-driven projects.

To be eligible you must be:

  • Enrolled in either Geography, Development Studies or a related discipline at participating universities, and
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of development through having completed development papers at 300 or postgraduate level or have relevant practical experience in development, and
  • A New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident, and
  • Aged 30 or under on 31 July 2018.

The location areas are Polynesia, Melanesia and Timor-Leste.

VSA volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation, insurance, and medical costs are provided. Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs. Student loans remain interest-free while on assignment with VSA.
