DEPARTMENT OF SURGICAL SCIENCES
Who we are
We are the Department of Surgical Sciences, located at Dunedin Hospital. We are a major teaching and research department within the Dunedin School of Medicine.
This particular role sits within the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care section. Our unit is involved in a variety of areas including clinical anaesthesia, intensive care, post-operative pain control, chronic and persistent pain management, and aero-medical evacuation of casualties.
About the Role
In this position you will work to prepare and develop learning resources for the Trainee Intern Critical Care Learning module, delivered as part of the 6th year course. You will also participate in the teaching and assessment of NZRC Level 6/7 courses and the Simulation Weeks, which occur, with each cycle of the module.
Key tasks include:
- Working with key clinicians and the e-learning advisor to convert raw case material into online cases with supporting learning materials in accord with the stated module learning outcomes.
- Further developing and refining scripts and supporting materials for simulation cases.
- Improving and refining assessment methods and documentation of achievements that links to stated learning outcomes for this module.
- Developing structure and script for new video learning materials to ensure that the Trainee interns have access to material that supports the learning outcomes in their own time.
Your Skills and Experience
- An enthusiasm for teaching and the development of new teaching methods particularly in the e-learning space.
- A strong rapport with students and experience working with students in stressful clinical scenarios.
- A great initiative and the ability to utilise modest teaching resources to develop adequate and convincing simulated patient environments.
This role is well suited to a medical graduate with at least three years post-graduate clinical experience and someone who is preferably beyond or near completion of a post-graduate training program in a field that is relevant to Critical Care Learning.
Further Details
This is a part-time (0.3 FTE), fixed-term position for 12 months.
Note: As a part-time position, the salary range for this role will be the pro-rata equivalent of the annual full-time salary range listed.
