Team Leader - Component Processing (Wellington)

The NZ Blood Service has the sole responsibility for collecting, processing and distribution of blood throughout New Zealand. The Processing Team Leader role is responsible for leading a small Processing Team based at our donor collection and processing site in Wellington. This team is responsible processing of blood and blood products, tissue, cryopreservation, and quality and process control procedures.

The work the Processing team does is essential to ensuring we supply blood and blood products that save lives on a daily basis.

Reporting to the National Manager Manufacturing you would be responsible for:

• Providing a high and effective level of leadership through decisions made and the direction given in the delivery of services provided.
• Continually monitoring and improving systems, methods, efficiency and the quality of services provided to internal and external customers.
• Managing the site infrastructure that is integral to maintaining a functioning laboratory and clean room suite. These include the plant, equipment and alarms.
• Providing professional and effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ensuring all activities are carried out in a manner that complies with defined quality standards e.g GMP and Medsafe licensing and legislative requirements.
• The development and maintenance of effective relationships with internal and external customers.
• Managing some important business improvements initiatives and change management projects as we continue to extend the responsibilities and roles of the processing team

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated proven leadership skills and have 10 years' experience in a Medical Laboratory Scientist role or higher.   You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication, planning and organizational skills with an attention to detail. You will hold full registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ, and hold a current annual practicing certificate (APC).
