Your Role:
As Chief Mate for Interislander you will serve as second in command to the Master overseeing the Deck Department. You will act as the Safety Officer on-board the vessel, be responsible for crew management, and shipboard maintenance while ensuring that the vessel complies with all Statutory and local Regulations applicable to the ship both at sea and in the harbour. In addition to this you will undertake cargo operations and navigational watches as required. A key focus of the role of Chief Mate is to understudy the Master and gain the necessary Pilot Exemption Certificates along with other necessary skills.
Your Skills:
- Two years' experience with a current STCW II/2 Masters Unlimited Certificate of Competency which is recognised by Maritime New Zealand and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
- Five years' experience working on a RO-PAX ferry.
- Demonstrable RO-PAX ship handling preferably as Master.
- Proven experience in a leadership role managing a large team
- Effective communicator who sets and delivers on high standards.
- Is able to gain Pilot Exemption Certificates as soon as practical.
