Agnew Transport Services Ltd (ATS) is a well-established company that due to significant growth, has moved to new premises in the Whakatu Industrial area, Hastings. The transport side of the business has flatdeck, curtainsider and tipper units and its core clients are from the horticultural, agricultural and industrial sectors. Commodities carted include fresh produce, aggregate, and fertiliser.
We are seeking a self-motivated person, who is passionate about the transport industry to manage the day to day operations of the transport side of the company.
The successful applicant must be able to exercise positive leadership and have effective management skills to lead and liaise with staff, contractors and clients.
Excellent communication and people skills will be essential, giving clear instructions and listening when necessary.
Strong analytical and the ability to problem solve will be also be a key to the position as there will be paperwork involved and day to day issues to address.
Key tasks will include management
- Management of transport employees, including effective planning for staffing levels and training, encouraging teamwork etc
- Management of transport operations, including effective planning of vehicle requirements and workflow
- Overall management of vehicles, ensure all vehicles are legally compliant and we achieve a minimum of a 4 star Ministry of Transport rating
- Legal, ensure we are compliant with relevant legislation/rules transport/environment etc
- Project Management – Plan & oversee projects/complex jobs
- Dispatch, be part of the dispatch team and dispatch trucks during busy times or staff leave. This would be mainly during the harvest season.
- Business Development – Sales plan, visiting new and existing customers
- Health & Safety – Be up to date with Health & Safety, providing assistance and direction.

There will be times when the role will be busy so the tolerance to cope with stress will be an advantage. You will though be part of a management team that ultimately works well together and is supportive of each other
