Oji Fibre Solutions (NZ) Limited is New Zealand's largest pulp and paper manufacturer. Strategically located in the central North Island, the Kinleith mill produces for both the local and international markets. The organisation is committed to achieving competitive excellence through innovation, performance and leadership. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experience Shift Manager to join our Steam and Recovery team at the Kinleith Mill located in Tokoroa.

As the Shift Manager you will be responsible for managing and leading a shift covering all aspects of production paying special attention to safety, environmental and quality issues, as well as resourcing, manufacturing, continuous improvement and production performance. This position will also maintain our positive safety behaviour culture while driving for continued performance improvements and uptime targets. The position will work on a continuous roster system as the site operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Actively drive and promote safe working behaviours and ensuring a safe working environment is maintained and that company policy requirements are achieved
  • Manage production continuity through shift planning, delivering to standard operating plans, reporting and ensuring conformance to standards are met
  • Manage employee performance by participating in recruitment and selection processes, monitoring employee training progress and leading performance management processes

The successful applicants will have the following attributes:

  • Self-motivated with staff supervision experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Systematic problem solving skills with exposure to lean principles
  • A tertiary qualification in an engineering or technical discipline; however this is not essential
  • Operational or engineering experience within the Pulp and Paper Industry; is desirable however not essential
  • The ability to work a 12 hours shift roster, and a flexible work pattern appropriate to a continuous 24 hour manufacturing environment

You will be a leader with integrity, possess vision with the ability to coach and motivate your team. Additionally you must have excellent organisational and computer skills and demonstrate the ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds. You will be systematic when approaching your daily tasks, solving problems and reviewing systems and processes, while being flexible to changing business requirements.
