Detail information about job Product/Graphic Designer. Terms and conditions vacancy

Chant Productions is an Ellerslie based manufacturer of high-end and bespoke door hardware for the local and export markets. We produce an extensive range of beautifully crafted pull and lever handles, locks and accessories and specialist door machining equipment to assist in the installation of our products.

As our business is specialized rather than a mass production operation, a typical day can be widely varied; in this dynamic environment resilience and adaptability will be needed to deal with change.

We are experiencing sustained growth in the company and need a SME in product design with strong CAD skills to also create graphic content.  The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the rest of the Design team to deliver the outcomes that make us a respected international provider of high end door hardware.

There is the opportunity to extend or exercise your skills not only in Product/Graphic Design, photography and websites, but to be more actively involved in design engineering through to the manufacturing processes.  This might see you contributing ideas to the design and monitoring of testing regimes for our products, programming a small CNC machine to create casting patterns, or learning a variety of other more engineering type skills.

Core duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Take the design brief;
  • Create design concepts in a CAD program, produce exploded views, graphics and layouts using a variety of software;
  • Prepare drafts and present these to the target audience;
  • Amend final designs to customer requirements for final approval;
  • Contribute your knowledge to the wider team to complete all tasks in documenting a product to manufacturing standard including product data, specification sheets and installation instructions;
  • Prepare and upload new product data files to the website;
  • Contributing to team outcomes by using your SME skills to train others in the team to support a collaborative way of working; and
  • In turn learning skills from other SMEs.

There will be a steep learning curve to understand our extensive product range and while training will be provided, personal initiative will be a key requirement. To support you in this role, familiarity and knowledge of industrial processes and material requirements will be an advantage.

Do you have:

  • Creative flair, conceptual/visual ability and originality;
  • Demonstrated graphic design with a solid portfolio of work;
  • The ability to positively interact, communicate and present ideas;
  • The desire to participate in and drive change while observing key disciplines of the graphics and design fields;
  • Self-motivation; and
  • The desire to learn wider skills not common for graphic design.

We'd like to offer you:

  • Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience and skill set;
  • A dynamic pace of work;
  • Interesting and challenging work; and
  • The opportunity to grow your knowledge in engineering and design.

Our standard workshop hours are from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday with the opportunity to negotiate some flexibility in start and finish times.

If this sounds like you, please submit a covering letter, your CV and a sample portfolio to start the application process.  Only candidates with the entitlement to work in New Zealand need apply.
