Skellerns Metal Castings Limited manufactures a wide range of metal casting products for New Zealand since 1959 and is considered to be one of New Zealand's top foundries.  We are an expanding business that now operates two foundries in Auckland and one in Hamilton.  We produce a wide range of metal castings, concrete and plastic products, from pattern designs through to final installations.   We also have an expanding catalogue of streetwear products that are both manufactured locally or are imported from overseas.   

We have an opening for a production/operations guru to join our Foundry operation in Hamilton. We are looking for someone with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Foundry environment and leading teams. You will be conversant in HSE matters, as well as having a great can-do attitude. Building on the existing strong team with exceptional planning skills will determine your success in this role. This is a hands-on role that will require strong leadership and a high level of autonomy.   

Reporting to the General Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the production team ensuring they have materials and resources to complete jobs in a safe and productive environment;
  • Lead the safety culture and ensure all staff participate in HSE requirements;
  • Oversee planning to maximize efficiencies while meeting customer demands;
  • Oversee the sales function of the Hamilton branch;
  • Produce quality finished castings on time and to specification;
  • Ensure equipment and plant are in working order;
  • Participate in maintaining and developing operating procedures to improve productivity and quality;
  • Stock control and purchasing duties, including procurement of finished imported products.

 

The successful candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Minimum of 5 years team leadership in a foundry environment (or similar such as engineering/ fabrication/production);
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing (or similar) principals;
  • Procurement;
  • Current forklift and crane licence (preferred but not essential);
  • Team player in a diverse team environment;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Concern for timeliness and quality;
  • Physically fit;
  • Analytical and numerical skills;
  • Qualifications in engineering and/or leadership and/or health and safety (preferred but not essential);
  • A good command of written and spoken English is essential.
