We are looking for an experienced Social Performance Advisor to lead the formalisation of Reefton's approach to external affairs and social performance, and contribute to improving those aspects in the Reefton closure strategy and work plan. This is a unique opportunity to understand and build the social aspects of mine closure, offering hands on opportunities for community engagement and research on closure.

The role

Reporting to the Planning and Approval Superintendent you will serve as the central coordinator for the development and implementation of External Affairs and the Social Performance Management System at Reefton. Ensuring the systems are aligned with the social closure objectives and embedded in to the management strategy, you will work closely with the town of Reefton to research and design a community engagement and communications plan through to implementation. Aligning the strategy with OceanaGold corporate policies.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Working with the site closure team to lead the integration of social aspects into Reefton's closure planning and management
  • Anticipate and adjust for problems setbacks
  • Measure progress and evaluate results
  • Lead the coordination of the Reefton Closure Case Study and the research and writing required to document the social and economic impacts of Reefton from exploration to closure
  • Provide systems development and strategic social performance and communications support to Macraes Mine as required

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Social, Environmental or related discipline
  • Ideally have three-five years' experience in community relations on extractives and other large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Be a dynamic team player with strong coaching and influencing skills to successfully embed community engagement skills with the Reefton team
  • Have demonstrated experience accurately scoping length and difficulty of tasks and projects, setting objectives and goals, developing schedules and task/ people assignments
  • Be an innovative thinker - applying original thinking, theoretical learning, and knowledge to implement solutions, improve processes, methods, and services
  • Enjoy research and can provide prior evidence of social science research and excellent writing skills
  • Wear a strategic hat - anticipating future consequences and trends accurately

A full, clean and current driver's licence is essential, as is confidence driving a manual vehicle. You will need to be able to pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol testing.
