Become a Senior Advisor with the Behavioural Insights Team in New Zealand

About Us

The Behavioural Insights Team was founded to apply behavioural science to real-world problems. We work with governments around the world in almost every area of policy. While the subject and output of our projects varies considerably, there are common threads: we try to understand the contexts in which people make decisions; we notice small details; we find out what has and hasn’t worked before; we come up with innovative ideas for solving policy problems; and we measure everything we do as robustly as we can.

Our Wellington-based team is part of a growing Asia Pacific presence, collaborating closely with our offices in Sydney and Singapore. We are searching for a highly talented and driven individual to help us deliver an expanding programme of work in New Zealand.

About You

We're looking for someone passionate about applying behavioural insights to improve outcomes for individuals and organisations.

Essential

  • A deep understanding of behavioural science and direct experience of how it can be applied to help solve complex real life policy problems;
  • Ability to quickly assimilate complex issues across multiple policy areas and distil insights into practical solutions;
  • Excellent program and project management skills, including an eye for detail and commitment to quality in all aspects of a project;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (for example ability to write short, to-the-point policy papers for Ministers or senior officials);
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills, with the ability to exercise good judgement in a rapidly changing and ambiguous environment;
  • Experience in the design and implementation of rigorous evaluations, including but not limited to randomised controlled trials;
  • Persistent intellectual curiosity that keeps you ahead on the behavioural science research and policy challenges in your areas of focus;
  • Excellent client and stakeholder management skills.
  • 5+ years’ experience developing or delivering policy in government, academia, or for a consulting firm.

Desired

  • A Masters or PhD in a relevant subject area (including, but not limited to behavioural economics, psychology, design thinking, evaluation methods);
  • Experience working with tangata whenua/Pacific Island communities.

About the Role

As a Senior Advisor you will lead a portfolio of projects as an expert in behavioural science and policy. You will have responsibility for shaping projects and steering teams as they complete literature reviews, quantitative analysis, field work, and randomised controlled trials. You will interact with senior government officials and other partners on a regular basis, and will be a driving force behind the development of the New Zealand office.

Senior Advisors have a strong understanding of the theory and practice of applying behavioural insights to policy, and are responsible for supporting more junior staff in developing their skills. You will be supported to build on your existing expertise to become a leading authority on the policy portfolios you work on. This will include frequent coaching and mentoring from experienced colleagues across BIT’s international team, and a calendar of training, external speakers, and events designed to keep you at the cutting edge of behavioural science research and application.

How to apply:

To express your interest for this role please send your current CV and a one page written letter outlining your experience, suitability for the role and current salary to [email protected]. Suitable candidates will be contacted by phone.
