Atlas Professionals, New Plymouth provides manning services for BW Offshore Ltd (Bergesen Worldwide Ltd) on their Floating Production Storage & Offloading Vessel (FPSO) Umuroa on a contract offshore New Plymouth, in the Tui Oilfield. We are seeking applications to join the FPSO Umuroa team as HSE Superintendent. 

Employment will be direct employment with BW Offshore.

With your ‘can-do’ attitude and strong attention to detail you will be responsible for leading and supporting the on-board OIM In all Health, Safety and Environmental matters and carry out a range of HSE related duties as directed by him. This will require you to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Flexibility, Honesty and reliability are also important for this role, combined with competent computer skills using Company computerized maintenance management systems.

Responsibility and Authority:

Personal Accountability

  • Responsible for ensuring , in conjunct with the OIM, that the Emergency response Plan is followed during an Emergency, and during emergency exercises
  • Responsible for ensuring that the incident investigations are performed according to the BWO Procedures and the quality and completeness of reports, including the root cause analysis, is in accordance with BWO requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring that all activities subject to Permit to work are properly risk assessed and the cumulative risk of all activities
  • Responsible for ensuring that all risks identified through risk assessments are properly communicated to the workforce carrying out the work activities, and those directly affected by the work activities;
  • Responsible for arranging Emergency Response Drills, maintenance of associated records and timely rectification of drill report actions;
  • Responsible for monitoring HSE performance on board and introducing measures to ensure compliance with BWO Policies and Procedures;
  • Responsible for ensuring that all HSE concerns are raised in a timely manner with offshore management and onshore support functions as appropriate according to BWO Policies and Procedures;
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate understanding of Major Accident Hazards amongst the personnel onboard the unit;
  • Responsible for leveraging the onboard personnel to constantly seek hazards as part of their daily activities.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide Health, Safety and Environmental support and leadership to the offshore organisation as required by the OIM and in conjunction with the OIM;
  • Provide support to the OIM in all HSE matters;
  • Carry out a range of HSE related duties as directed by the OIM. These may include the following, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Actively engage with the elected Safety Representatives in promoting safety awareness
  • Manage induction and safety familiarisation of persons arriving on the Asset according to BWO Policies and Procedures
  • Assist in the assessment of the Induction Procedure
  • Conduct HSE related ‘on the job’ training with Asset personnel
  • Lead periodic ‘whole crew’ Safety Meetings
  • Lead and promote safety campaigns
  • Note that the above responsibility for monitoring that all activities subject to a Permit to Work are properly risk assessed and the cumulative risk of all activities is acceptable at all times precludes this role from any other active role in the PTW process such as PTW coordinator

Authorities

The holder of this position has the necessary authorities to carry out the responsibilities stated above. This position’s financial authority will be specified in BW offshore authorisation matrix.

HEALTH, SAFETY, SECURITY, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY (HSSEQ)

All employees shall be familiar with the Management System structure and content, and have specific knowledge regarding requirements, responsibilities, processes (working methods) and other Management System information applicable to the position.

Everyone has an obligation to avoid work that may be considered potentially hazardous. If a hazardous situation occurs, or is considered likely to occur, the work shall be suspended, and the immediate superior shall be contacted without delay.

Be familiar with and adhere to the BWO Permit to Work, Safety and Environmental Management System.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate- minimum
  • Major Emergency Management Initial Response

 Experience

  • 10 years’ experience in the offshore Oil and Gas industry
  • Previous experience working in a similar role on an offshore facility preferably an FPSO
  • Strong understanding and background in Process Safety
