It's an exciting time at Kmart - we are currently Australasia most profitable retailer and we have some big plans in place that will ensure our business continues to grow and be hugely successful! We are currently transforming the look and feel of our stores with the aim of significantly increasing our retail business. We have over 200 stores already open throughout Australia and New Zealand, we employ over 30,000 team members and we have another 40 new stores in the pipeline to ensure we are expanding our business!

We are currently seeking applications for those wishing to join our Line Manager in Training program, to become future Line Managers (Department Manager’s) in our stores.

At Kmart, we see the value that great leaders can add to our teams, stores and culture. Our Line manager in training program is designed to provide potential frontline managers with the skills and knowledge to successfully manage a team within Kmart. The program includes facilitated learning and on-the-job discovery through rotations across all departments. 

Some travel to the different stores (within reason) is required, so a flexible attitude is a must. The LMIT program is for a period of approximately 6 months and after successful completion of the program, you will move into a Line Manager or Bench Manager position.

Here in New Zealand, we are looking for people to join our program both in the North and South Islands.  There may also be future management opportunities across the country, so the ability to relocate, although not essential, would be highly regarded.

Previous management experience in the retail industry, with demonstrated experience leading/supervising/coaching a team is required. You may be working for a smaller retailer already and are keen to learn from a big box retailer or have led, coached and supervised a team elsewhere. Being a self-motivated individual, you will also have:

  • A solid background in customer service / retail
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach, train and mentor Team Member’s to get the best out of every Team member
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to our evolving and ever changing and successful business
