New World Porirua offers the opportunity for a Qualified Baker to join our diverse and hardworking bakery team at New World Porirua! Our bakery produces mostly everything from scratch including bread, sweet treats and fabulous cakes. We have a fantastic reputation for the cakes we provide for all types of occasions. The Job: The role of a baker here at New World Porirua includes all aspects of baking. You will be required to work in each section which includes: Breads which are made fresh daily, Pastry where you will be baking and icing our products, Cakes where you will be baking block cakes and creating the cake bases for our customer orders, Serve-over where you will be baking our muffins, criossants and our range of sweet and savoury treats. You will be individually responsible for reading recipes, preparing your ingredients and creating products as per the production requirements for any particular day. You will need to be physically fit as there will be heavy lifting involved on a daily basis whether this be moving doughs, moving equipment or retrieving ingredients from across the stores storage areas. You will be required to maintain a tidy work space and for the general tidiness of the bakery department. The candidate: To join our team must be self-motivated as well as a team player, and someone who takes a lot of pride in the work they create. We are looking for a reliable person who will show up to work on-time (every time) and complete the job to a high standard. Time management is also another key attribute in a Bakery department. You’ll have some products proving, while some batches are in the oven, all while you’re making the next batch of dough. You will be a good communicator who is confident in your knowledge of baking techniques. You will also need to have exceptional customer service skills and have a good understanding of those customers expectations. The Requirements: There will be weekend work and early 4am starts. You must be flexible. Qualifications as a Baker are essential. Previous experience in the supermarket industry is preferred.
