Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) is a state-owned enterprise. It has an active online presence and plans to start a national TV service in the near future. SIBC works to the benefit of its commercial clients, listeners and online viewers.
SIBC has a distinctly Solomon Islands sound that all Solomon Islanders recognise. It has listeners beyond Solomon Islands, through to Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.
SIBC is key in providing important information such as Current affairs and emergency warnings. The broadcasting network provides educational and cultural programmes and commercial advertising.
How you will make an impact:
You will engage in market research of radio and television products within the Solomon Islands and develop a clear strategy for sales and marketing 2019 – 2020.
You’ll develop capacity by providing development and training within the iconic Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, and assist in the development of effective marketing and sales of radio products, and production of radio and television programmes.
As the ideal candidate, you will apply your ability to develop, train and mentor staff within the SIBC sales and marketing team. This is a great opportunity to apply your skills in the sales and marketing of radio products. The [SB1] assignment will require you to design and implement a training package for staff on the basics of sales and marketing. Another aspect of your role would be to provide day-to-day mentoring. This will encompass transfer of analytical tools, proposal drafting skills, and equipping staff with the tools to negotiate confidently and effectively.
We are looking for a volunteer with:
- A degree in marketing and/or several years of successful experience in a supervisory or managerial sales and marketing role
- Experience developing staff and delivering sales and marketing-related training
- Experience in market research and analysis
- A strong communicator with experience in developing and managing client relationships
- Experience in copywriting
For this assignment, ideally, you approach situations with a positive and outgoing attitude.
This is a 6-month assignment based in the Solomon Islands.
About Volunteering with VSA
VSA is New Zealand's largest and most experienced volunteering agency working in international development.
We cover living allowances, accommodation and utilities. Travel, visas, insurance and medical costs are organised and funded by VSA.
Volunteers must be a NZ citizen or permanent resident.
