The part-time PR & Communications Specialist will support the PR Manager (Sydney-based) in managing and implementing earned media activities for the three RCL Cruises Ltd brands in New Zealand: Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises. The PR & Communications Specialist will manage the press office, media travel program, media materials, events and reporting while working collaboratively with all other departments of the business both in New Zealand and Australia.
The PR & Communications Specialist role reports to the PR Manager and is expected to contribute to the following departmental KPIs (performance measured annually):
· Generate positive coverage
· Improve share of voice
· Contribute to increased brand awareness and preference
The PR & Communications Specialist role also works closely with the Regional Manager, New Zealand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists PR Manager with the development and implementation the New Zealand PR Annual Operating Plan.
- Reporting – produce the weekly and monthly coverage reports. Produce and analyse quarterly share of voice reports. Produce campaign reports where required.
- Press Office Manager – Respond to media queries and proactively create/pitch/distribute media releases/content, drive the media meetings program. Manage media database.
- Media Materials – Produce significant and complex media materials, such as media releases, interview briefs and speeches, and liaise with head office to ensure materials are uploaded to the press center.
- Media Travel – Manage the implementation of the media travel program, ensuring objectives are met and journalists deliver ROI.
- Media Ship Tours – manage all New Zealand FVR requests and media ship tours.
- Competitions / Promotions – Manage the design and implementation of media competitions and promotions.
- Tactical Work – Ensure tactical business requirements are supported with PR efforts, liaising with other relevant business units to ensure messaging aligns, including regular attendance at trading meetings and producing appropriate material for the business units to understand PR activity and impact. Excellent inter-departmental liaison skills required.
- Events – Design, manage and host media events.
- Agency – Lead on communication with external PR agencies in New Zealand, ensure that they complete work effectively and in a timely manner.
- Market activity – Monitor the media marketplace playing close attention to travel/cruise activity/innovation whilst being aware of other sectors and examples of good practice that can be built upon.
- Issues / crisis –Supporting PR Manager to identify and mitigate potential issues and issues. Manage minor issues.

Financial Responsibilities:
- Support the PR Manager in ensuring all activities fall within budget and that PR budgets are optimised.
Qualifications:
· Tertiary qualification in PR, Journalism or Communications desirable
- Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in a communications role (preferably Travel & Tourism)
· Able to demonstrate understanding of public relations concepts
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to strategise and see the ‘big picture’ of the organisation
- Ability to self-direct and manage own time
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to analyse data and trends in the media landscape
- Innovative and creative thinking
- Excellent understanding of the media landscape and travel media contacts, including ‘new’ media
- Event management experience
- Highly efficient working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proactive, enthusiastic and a team leader
- Flexible working hours and travel
