Detail information about job Trade Qualified Carpenter. Terms and conditions vacancy

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trade qualified Carpenter to join our Civil Maintenance Team at Lyttelton Port.

It's hard to find a role that provides it all, but we believe this may just be it! Just minutes from the central city, we offer consistent and yet varied work, the opportunity to work for a truly iconic Canterbury Business, and a location with a view that is second to none!

About us

Lyttelton Port of Christchurch is New Zealand's third-largest deep water port. It provides a vital link in international trade routes, and plays a key role in the global transport network. A customer-focused Port, we provide a full array of shipping services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, making a real contribution to the economic wellbeing of people and businesses in Canterbury and New Zealand.

 About the role

Responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance within the Port, and at our two inland Ports, duties include:-

  • Maintenance and inspection of structures including timber, concrete and other related materials
  • Demolition, construction and installation for project maintenance
  • Use of compressed air and powder actuated tools
  • Assisting with Ships Lines and Dock Operations as required.

About you

To succeed in this role you must:-

  • Have previous experience in building and maintenance (preferably in Heavy Civil infrastructure and/or commercial construction), and concrete repairs
  • Be highly adaptable as we operate in an ever changing environment that we have no control over such as tides, shipping schedules, and the weather
  • Be comfortable working in confined spaces (under wharfs), on water, and at heights.
  • Have a proven ability to work well within an established team, and yet possess the confidence and skills to work independently
  • Have a full current Drivers Licence - additional licences such as class 2, 3 & 4 are desirable, but not essential.

Opportunities exist for someone with a strong interest in diving, depending on relevant qualifications and skills/experience.

All tools will be provided, along with required safety gear.
