Our client is the West Coasts’ leading domestic, industrial and commercial electrical contractor. Their staff expertise ranges from a Design and Survey Team, Technical staff, Project Managers, Inspectors, Electricians and Line Mechanics, all who are qualified to handle any job required.
The role
Our client is seeking a safety conscious Communications Technician to join their busy Nelson and Greymouth teams.

You will be competent to carry out the following duties:
- Can undertake routine maintenance and testing on Communication Equipment
- Assist in the electrical maintenance and testing of high voltage equipment
- Carry out acceptance and commissioning of new substations
- Provide emergency fault response to Transpower and Network Tasman substation equipment
- Participate in the standby roster
- Install and maintain Transpower and Network Tasman SCADA and Communication systems
- Provide testing and technical advice for external customers
- Have previous Transpower or similar experience
- Have experience in protection and maintenance switching
- Can adhere to best practices
- Can comply with health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements
You will be working across reactive, planned and corrective work so there will be standby responsibilities, after-hours and working away from home requirements.
Skills and experience:
- Have a current Electrical Workers Registration Board Registration
- Have a clean full class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence
- Have an excellent attendance record
- Have excellent communication skills
- Have strong interpersonal skills
- Can problem solve
- Have a strong command of Mathematics and English
- Are computer literate
- Can work outdoors in inclement weather
