The apprenticeship

Partnered with our client, we are searching for a mechanically minded individual looking to become a qualified tool-maker. This full-time opportunity will allow you to complete a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (MEM30205) via an apprenticeship of 4 years’ duration, specialising in tool-making. You will gain valuable hands on experience, skills, and support from one of Australia’s leading providers of perforated metal for industrial, commercial, architectural and private uses. This employer is looking to ideally provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to grow within their business and expand their experience within the industry.

Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will be working in a close-knit team and perform the following duties:

  • Using specialised equipment, such as centre lathes, turret punchers or universal millers;
  • Crafting and fitting tools for these machines;
  • Repairing and fixing these tools or worn parts;
  • Working from detailed drawings to interpret specifications; and
  • General workshop maintenance and other duties as required.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a candidate with a sincere interest in pursuing a mechanical trade. You will enjoy working with your hands, and thrive with practical problem-solving. You will also have the dedication to see this 4-year apprenticeship through from commencement to completion. In addition, you will:

  • Have a sincere interest in pursuing this tool-making trade;
  • Be punctual and reliable;
  • Possess a strong work ethic;
  • Possess mathematical and problem-solving aptitude; and
  • Be hard-working and can-do attitude.

A driver’s licence and some prior exposure to machinery or a trade-environment will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
