Our client is Australia’s largest machine tool breakdown service company and mechanical CNC retrofitter / machine tool reconditioner. They also design and build special purpose metal cutting and profiling machines supported by a preventative maintenance program.

This approach has seen the company enjoy a sustained growth path that has been responsible for this newly created role for a Machine Tool Fitter & Turner.

Role
The role’s primary responsibility is to undertake all aspects of building, installing and commissioning special purpose machine tools and automation equipment. It also requires rebuilding, retrofitting and servicing machine tools for engineering and manufacturing industries in Victoria mainly, but also throughout Australia.

Specific tasks include:
  • Operating lathes, milling machines, slideway machines and hand tools at high tolerances
  • Reading / interpreting plans and working drawings
  • Repairing and and assembly of machines, including power and hand scraping and mottling
  • Building new machines
  • Relocating machines
Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified, experienced Fitter and Turner, preferably with Cert III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade, with extensive exposure to a manufacturer’s toolroom and maintenance worshop, or alternatively an individual experienced in the onsite repair of varied customers machine tools.

Your background will have equipped you with a high level of proficiency in the use of a wide range of machine and hand tools, as well as the ability to diagnose the various causes of mechanical breakdown. It is also important that you understand machine geometry and possess a thorough knowledge of the workings of CNC machines.

  • Meticulous attention to detail leading to high levels of accuracy
  • The ability to communicate information accurately to customers
  • The capability to operate autonomously while also buying into a tight-knit, team-based culture where information is shared and colleagues supported.
Due to the onsite element of the role, you will need to be prepared to undertake occasional interstate travel.
