About the Position

Located in the scenic district of eastern Toowoomba, Symes Thorpe offers an open environment with a number of smaller houses, grouped into three areas of support including 24- nursing & care services, dementia support and respite. The facility is fully accredited. Symes Thorpe boasts a full commercial kitchen, providing freshly prepared meals and catering for special dietary needs. We are currently looking for a casual Kitchen, Laundry and Cleaning Assitant to join us, covering both planned and unscheduled leave in the kitchen, laundry and general cleaning teams. This may include shifts at short notice and on weekends so you will need to be flexible, adaptable and a fast learner.

This role’s overall purpose is to assist the cook/chef in the preparation and serving of meals for residents and the cleaning of designated kitchen utensils and areas. Provide safe, high quality and efficient laundering and general cleaning services to residents in order to meet regulatory compliance and resident satisfaction and, in conjunction with other roles in the facility, encourage physical and social independence; support a safe home-like environment and safeguard the dignity and privacy of residents.

 

About You

As a motivated and skilled support worker, you will offer the following abilities and experience:

  • Assisting with meal preparation and service, including menu planning and commitment to dietary requirements
  • A background in general domestic and/or commercial cleaning duties
  • Experience in laundry services including washing, folding, sorting and ironing
  • Keeping all areas clean & tidy and working within Food Safety Guidelines and Infection Control principles
  • Confident communicator who can maintain professional boundaries with clients and their families
  • Experience working within designated timeframes
  • An open and enthusiastic manner with a commitment to working with elderly people
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Able to follow procedure and ensue the residents personal preferences are adhered to

With a professional manner and friendly disposition, you must be willing and able to work all shifts as required, sometimes at short notice and on weekends.

The following will also be required of successful applicants:

  • Previous experience in food preparation, laundry or cleaning services within a Residential or Commercial environment
  • Understanding of Infection Control/Bacterial hazards and Safe Food Handling
  • Physical capability of meeting the requirements of the role
  • A current National Police Certificate
  • A Certificate II in Kitchen, Laundry or Cleaning Operations will be highly regarded
